Sunday afternoon the Patriots dominated the Jaguars for 60 minutes to move to 3-0 on the season. Before the game ended there was already a slew of people whining about the Patriots running up the score. Well to that I say,
"Too effin bad". In my opinion, there are two types of people who whine about professional sports teams "running up the score": Those who have never won anything and those who always got a trophy for doing nothing. Sorry, folks but these are professional athletes not a bunch of ten year-olds. Have you ever heard of people complaining when a golfer blows the doors off his competition? Should he miss putts just to keep it close and not hurt anyone's feelings? What about a tennis player? Should Serena Williams take a little off her serve so a competitor can return the ball? Do you see how stupid this sounds?
In addition to the idea of "running up the score" being just plain stupid in professional athletics, the one thing Bill Belichick stressed going into the game was playing a full 60 minutes. So, after a week of hearing that they needed to play 60 minutes, would it be smart to suddenly go away from that game plan at the 45 minute mark just because we had an ipressive lead? NO, I don't think so.

So, how did the Patriots completely dominate the Jaguars? While the defense and special teams did a terrific game, it really comes down to the execution of the offense. Assuming your defense shows up for the game, you are going to have a pretty easy victory when your offense scores on every possession. Yes, the Patriots scored on every possession of the game. So far for the season they have scored on 61.8% of their possessions this season. Second to the Patriots are the NFC favorites Green Bay Packers with 53.1%.
With the Patriots scoring often, punter Ryan Allen isn't getting a whole lot of action. In 3 games he has only been called upon to punt 5 times. As of now, Allen is on pace to punt only 27 times for the season. To put that into perspective for you, the Raiders punted 109 times last season. Good thing Ryan also serves as Stephen Gostkowski's holder or he might not dress for the next game.
