A BIG NFL CHANGE NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT

Next season we will not be seeing athletic NFL players jump over the line of scrimmage and opposing defenses in order to block extra points. That was one of the rules that the coaches agreed to change next season. Another rule that you have most likely heard a lot about is how instant replays will now be handled by Dean Blandino and his group remotely. They will be making the decision and relaying it to the umpires on the field. While these are widely known rule changes, they will not have as great of an effect on games as a timing change will.
The timing change I am referring to was not something that the coaches got to vote on. Instead it is a fiat by our favorite commissioner, Roger Goodell.
New England Patriots AFC Champions
Under the old rules if a runner went out of bounds with less than two minutes left in the half or five minutes left in the game, the game-clock would stop until the center hiked the ball. Starting next season the clock will start clicking away precious seconds once the ball is set "ready to play" by the official.
This new change will undoubtedly change the "two-minute offenses" teams run when trying to score at the end of a half.
While I'm sure Josh McDaniels and Tom Brady have already begun preparations for this new wrinkle, I won't be surprised to see other teams have the clock run out on them because their players aren't prepared.

I would imagine that this rule change is more about speeding up the games than about trying to favor one team over another.
.
However, you can count on New England to practice all summer on a new 2 minute hurry up offense so that they can stay within the rules. You can also count on many teams, as observed, not understanding the impact and wasting the clock on their hurry up offense. You can further count on the media and hateful fans of other teams to observe New England's exploitation of the new rules to achieve success. I'm sure we'll see some kind of #HurryGate because it will be something nobody has ever done before.
.
Oh what a tangled web we weave ...

You should probably apply for the #hurrygate patent right now ?

Great point BSC! I agree--this will have a significant impact on the game...heck, Andy Reid may never get over it. Hard to believe this isn't being talked about...
