While I was originally pretty confident in the Patriots resigning Talib, the closer we get to 4pm tomorrow, the less confident I am. Going into the tampering period I thought we would get something worked out once his agent could see what was out there. I also thought that the Jets' releasing of Antonio Cromartie might make Talib and his camp hurry up and get a deal done. Now I'm starting to think that Talib and several other cornerbacks are going to test the waters all the way to the deep end. While it may work out for all of them, it could also back fire. I guess we will just have to wait and see. The rumors of the Washington Redskins possibly being back in play for Talib also makes me unsure or what's about to happen. Based on comments made to Adam Schein on Mad Dog Radio and repeated throughout the twittersphere today, Alterraun Verner is expecting his free agency experience to be brief. It appears he wants to play for a winner and is willing to sacrifice money for wins.
Since it appears that many people have forgotten, I'm going to remind everyone that we are still on the hook for $7.5 million of cap space for Aaron Hernandez.
I'll be interested to see what the Jets do with all the cap space they are creating as they have made two significant cuts in the past two days (Cromartie and Santonio Holmes). With those cuts, they move into the top ten for amount of money below the cap. Of course they are still over $40 million away from the the Raiders who have over $66 million left in cap space.
